Rooted Chaos Collection

This collection contains pieces from my last gas kiln firing of 2025. Each item is the result of high-temperature reduction firing, a process specific to gas kilns that creates unique variations in every piece.

The work features bronze-colored markings and carbon spotting, characteristic of the red iron oxide and soda ash glazes used. For this collection, I experimented for the first time with a dark brown speckled clay body rated for cone 10.

The creative process for these pieces relied on a balance between technical control and the unpredictable nature of the firing environment. This collection represents a series of experiments in material and technique that I categorize as rooted chaos.

This collection is currently for sale in my shop.

Earth Collection

The Earth collection is based on natural landscapes and the textures of the outdoors. These pieces use a dark, rich clay body designed to complement the specific glaze selections.

During the firing process, the interaction between materials creates surfaces that resemble natural scenery. I focus on the inherent qualities of the clay, allowing its texture to dictate the final form of each object. The color palette is drawn from specific locations that provide a sense of comfort and familiarity.

The glazes feature small mineral speckles that vary across the surface of each piece. These tactile and visual details are intended to bring a grounded, intentional quality to daily routines.

Exploration Collection

These pieces explore different glaze combinations and were inspired by natural forms and textures.

Raku Collection

This collection was produced using raku firing, a technique where horsehair, feathers, and other combustible materials are applied to the surface of the glowing hot vessels. These materials burn instantly into the ceramic, leaving permanent, distinctive imprints.

The application of each material is a deliberate and meditative process, resulting in patterns that cannot be replicated. Because the markings are created by the direct contact of organic matter with the heat, every vessel serves as a specific record of that interaction.
